Born or become?

I think that each of us may have different reasons for this. Someone has already been born as a gay. And someone might realize that he can not be happy with a woman, and so he will be looking for his happiness with a man. So, each of us has their own reasons for all this. In addition, some men who were born as gay may not immediately understand it. So we have what we have now. In addition, each of us has its own very complex psychology. We can meet some of the problems in our lives that will give us to understand that we are gays. It really is a very broad question. ;)

i think that there a lot of factors that influence our choice. the scientists didn't prove that there is something in our genes that makes us gay but other factors can influence substantially. for example our surrounding can cause this choice rathen than anything else! will you agree?

Discover Magazine has shown that "Two of the most convincing studies have proved conclusively that sexual orientation in men has a genetic cause."
New Scientist has shown that "geneticists may have explained how genes apparently linked to male homosexuality survive" and "Mothers' genetic skew linked to gay sons."LiveScience has shown that "The arrangement of a mother's genes could affect the sexual orientation of her son, according to a new study."Scientific American has shown that "Having Older Brothers Increases a Man's Odds of Being Gay."WebMD has shown that magnetic resonance imaging studies reveal key differences in the brains of gay and straight men and women that could add to the understanding of the biology of homosexuality.

When you fall in love it doesn't matter with whom. Your heart choose for you and that's it. Born or become - we never choose. We are who we are, we love and it's so magnificent feeling! Maybe we feel that we are not suit to some people standard from our childhood and maybe we just realize it later, but anyway, we love and we're loved, that's it.

there is no scientific or DNA test to tell us if a person is homosexual, bisexual or even heterosexual for that matter. And since nobody is "born gay," it's clear that sexual orientation is, at its core, a matter of how one defines oneself – not a matter of biology or genes.

I have straight friends so don't take this the wrong way but shouldn't we be trying to find out what makes people straight? I mean the poor dears, why would you want to have sex with someone whose sex-bits weren't the same as yours?

In my opinion people can either be born or become gays. But saying "become gays" I don't mean that they just wake up one morning and think "Well, I'm bored today, maybe I should sleep with a man to vary my life somehow?" :cheer: Of course it never happens that way. It is a part of personality which is not controlled by mind, we just consider people sexually attractive for us or not. But there are some outside factors which may cause it. For example, lots of things in man's personality depend on the model of male behavior he knows from childhood (usually it is a father)

The presumption seems to be that straightness is normal and therefore does not need explanation; whereas queerdom is a deviation from the norm and this requires investigation and answers. The latest theory of why gays are gay suggests that birth order influences male sexual orientation. According to new research by Anthony Bogaert, a psychologist at Brock University in Canada, gay men tend to have older brothers. Indeed, the more biological older brothers a man has, the greater his likelihood of being gay. This leads Bogaert to conclude that a man's sexual orientation is influenced by the conditions in his mother's womb when he was a foetus; with successive male children triggering changes in the mother's body that increase the chances that subsequent male children will be gay. This so-called fraternal gay birth effect creates a prenatal environment that fosters homosexuality in younger sons. Nice theory, shame about the exceptions. I hate to rain on Bogaert's research, but I am a first-born son and definitely capital GAY. Oh well, never mind. There are bound to be exceptions. Just because I don't personally fit his theory doesn't automatically invalidate it.

This is my opinion, though I have read several studies on the topic. I think that there is something about being gay in your genetic makeup. Without that, there is absolutely no way you are gay. However I think that it is also partially environmental. Depending on the environment in which you grew and developed, you get to your orientation. That's not to say that you can't be gay, even if you grow up with homophobic parents, just that there is some unknown factor that can encourage a person towards a gay lifestyle. I also think that depending on the genetic material inherited from both parents, a person can be gay from birth, no matter the effect from the outside environment. Hope that helps ;)
