Collecting coins

Coin collecting is an interesting hobby. Most collectors start as children, some are handed over their collections by their parents or grandparents and discover the joy of collecting at an early age, some come to collecting later in life, triggered by an interesting coin issued for an event or by an interesting coin issue with the prospect of potential value increase. The same was with me. I didn't have hobby but my grandfather showed his collection with coins to me...and then everything started. I have a great collection of my own coins together with grandfather's...he presented them to me...
What about you? Has anybody of you the same hobby?

I play sports (mostly baseball and hockey) , Read, Camping, Biking, Play pool, Volunteer and the volunteer fire company, Red Cross, and local shelter. You can walk the dogs or play with the cats to help socialize them. Or maybe you want to try some beach volleyball. Or since you like to draw, maybe try your creativity in a new area and try making creative sandcastles.

Well, when I was younger, I used to collect catalogs with cosmetics, because I was always interested in beauty and cosmetic industry. But now I left this hobby, because I have no time for it. As for collecting coins or stamps, I don't think that such kind of hobby is for me. It is just too boring for me and I don't understand people who go God knows where and spend all their money just to add a new example to their collections. But on the other hand, if it can bring them positive emotions, if it is interesting and exiting for them, if they really enjoy it, then why not?

collecting catalogs should be rather interesting. if you liked the sphere of cosmetic industry why then you didn't bind your life with this? or it was not interesting for you to work in the sphere but only to be interested in?

Collecting coins

Experienced coin collectors do collect sets in one way or another. Some go with date and mint mark, others maybe varieties, of say maybe one year or type of coin. Some go for a certain theme say ships. When first starting out few know what they may really find interesting so go for it all. In the end they will find something they like and go for it or stop collecting. Also a true numismatist studies what coins he collects. As time goes by he may go from one thing to another. The more one learns about coins the better the chance he will get into some that are more complicated to collect. The reason people these days get into all kinds of accumulations is they are trying to make a fast buck and few do. It is the quality coins I bought 40 years ago that have gone way up in value. I have them because I like them not because back then, I thought they would make me money. There are 3 rules to follow, do not get caught up in Fads, buy the highest grade you can afford in the series you pick to collect and most important read up on the series you collect, so you know more than the dealer about that series, but never let him know you do.

You can't just start with collecting rare coins. First, rare coins in the collection only then are valuable and interesting, when added to ordinary. The presence in a small collection 1-2-x rare coins does not enrich the meeting, chase the rarities has nothing to do with this collecting. Secondly, rare coins are often counterfeited. Need to have great experience and knowledge to distinguish the genuine coin from the counterfeit. The completion of the collection. The collection can go through the receipt of gifts, sharing of unnecessary coins doublets and other coins of the exchange Fund and, finally, through the exchange of other collectibles in your own samples.

Have many hobbies because there are many interesting things to do. But my favorite hobby is solving crossword puzzles. It's not only interesting, but also very useful. When you try to solve the puzzle you find out and learn a lot of different facts. Because in puzzles there are questions about famous people, geographical places, countries, scientific achievements and so on. You also train your brain. The crosswords are published in newspapers and magazines and there are special newspapers that contain only crosswords. I sometimes try to make up my own puzzle and I can say that it is not less interesting.

I think that if I decide to collect something (there is a lot of different trash which I keep, but I don't think that it is worth naming "collections") it will be something that may be used somehow - clothes, watches, even books, but not coins. For mew it is not interesting to collect something just for collecting. i don't judge people who do it, but I don't understand the point of it. For example, you have found a rare coin, gave your salary which you earned for the whole previous year, put this coin in your special box (or where do you keep it?) and what is next? What is the purpose of it?

To many, coin collecting may seem like a boring and pointless hobby. The kind of thing that reminds you of your grandfather, who had an attic or basement full of miscellaneous hobby items that were off-limits. I can’t really blame you if you do take that view toward coins or collectors, but I respectfully disagree. I actually used to think like that, but over a period of roughly two years, I found many reasons to come to like and respect this dying labor of love. There is nothing wrong with collecting coins, and pursuing your hobbies in general, as long as you are passionate about it and have a hobby on a budget. :woohoo:
