Driving a Car at a High Speed

Hi, guys. I have a problem with my boyfriend. At present I am dating a guy who is four years younger than me. I should say that we are rather different people and like different things. I don't think that our relationships will last long, but at present I love him and we live together. My boyfriend is crazy about cars. He changes them very often and now he owns a nice sportcar which is able to go on a high speed. He likes to drive it very fast. He is a good and highly-experienced driver, bur I worry about him very much. He has already been in several traffic incidents because of driving fast. So how can I convince him to drive more slowly?

Traveling at high speed 65-70 and you spot one coming onto the highway, you have just an instant to make any kind of move.
Most of the time, there is no recourse and you hit it where you hit it and seldom are we ready for it.
The rules my company gave for us, who had to be out at all hours, if it was inevitable that you were going to hit the deer, to try hit as nearly center as possible. Why I don't know, but I guess there is some perfectly good reason.
When I hit the deer, I only had a second before he ran right in front and nailed him on left headlight. Noplace to go, no time to brake, not even a chance of swerving. So I hit him. Each circumstance is different, but I have found that traveling the same roads all the time, that there are places you will find deer more frequently than others, so adjust for that and slow down.

I look around at other drivers and wonder whether they really need to get to where they’re going so fast, and whether they’ll slow down when they get there. I wonder if it’s really worth burning all that gas and getting so angry and risking so many lives. And then I think about other things, because driving for me has become a time of contemplation. I heartily recommend driving slower — for many reasons, but one of the best reasons is that it has made me a much happier person. It’s such a simple step to take, but it makes an incredibly big difference. The best ways to save gas (besides driving less or driving a fuel-efficient vehicle) are to avoid excessive idling, more gradual accelerating and decelerating, and driving slower. With gas prices so high these days, wasting gas by driving unnecessarily fast is something we can’t afford.

I like to ride at a high speed. Why? I am not a fan of car`s driving. I do not how it works. I have found some tips for the lovers of high speed from one famous driver. Firstly, and quickly, the best hand position. I remember being taught as a teenager that your hands should be at the 10 and 2 position on the wheel. Max thinks you actually get a lot more control, particularly at high speed, with your hands at the 9 and 3 position. In case you don’t know what I mean, the image below shows you what you should be doing. So, may be this is interesting for you.

I will not talk about topic that high speed is very dangerous, but i will stay at the point that car is not the best variant to use. I would prefer to use bicycle for everyday to get to the job or simply to ride to the beach in order to relax . I want everybody to thing about the fact that we are polluting the environment ant this is leading to the disaster.

Hey - I hear you, really. I still have to remind myself to just back off a bit - and in my head I play the tape of the officer asking "so, where's the fire?"
More importantly, look in the recent threads around her for one titled something like "I just got t-boned', or 'I was just in an accident'. From a legal standpoint, it's great that an accident is someone else's fault - but that doesn't do you much good when you're off the road for 2 weeks waiting for car repairs and arguing with insurance companies. Driving defensively is smart... driving aggressively is stupid... and I'm stupid in that regard more than I should be. It's a hard habit to break.
(uh-oh... I just called myself stupid - I hope I don't get banned from the forum for that. Nah - won't happen... too many others have already called me stupid and they're still around.)

Try to tell him that the best ways to save gas (besides driving less or driving a fuel-efficient vehicle) are to avoid excessive idling, more gradual accelerating and decelerating, and driving slower. With gas prices so high these days, wasting gas by driving unnecessarily fast is something we can’t afford. Also faster driving gives you a shorter amount of time to respond to something in your path, and even a fraction of a second can mean the difference between life and death. Drive slower for your safety and that of those around you … especially drive slow around runners, cyclists, schools, and neighborhoods with kids on the streets.

I like driving a car, but i cannot for make it safe , because the thing is that i have no license so that is kinda inevitable nowadays. I am really a car lover and i want one that is so valuable, i am not going to tell the name because does not sense, but i will risk driving at a high speed only if i am alone in the car.

Of course i understand that you worry about your boyfriend and it is normal to worry about the person you love! That is very bad that he liked high speed and do not think about safety of his life. You should talk to him and persuade him that there is nothing more valuable than human's life...so that he should try to drive on normal speed

I suppose that driving at a high speed is a real problem. It increases the likelihood of an accident. Moreover, high speed reduces the possibility to respond in time when necessary, people need time to process information, to decide whether or not to react and, finally to make a reaction, at high speed it is not always possible. I think that you should have a serious conversation with your partner, explain that you love and value him. Frankly speaking, I have several friends who like to drive at a high speed, it is like a kind of narcotic for them, they are speed addicts or something like that. All in all, we should remember that a car is not a luxuty, but the means of movement.
