Health benefits of kiwis

Do you like kiwis? I like the a lot. And they are very useful for health. Raw kiwi contains actinidain, a protein-dissolving enzyme that can help to improve the digestion of heavy meals much like the papain in papaya or bromelain in pineapple.Kiwi’s high level of potassium helps keep our electrolytes in balance by counteracting the effects of sodium.Kiwis are a great source of fiber. This prevents constipation and other intestinal problems. The fuzzy fiber of Kiwi helps bind and move toxins from your intestinal tract. Kiwis are small, but don’t let their size fool you. This super fruit is host to numerous nutrition benefits. In addition to its whole food form, kiwi can also be found as a supplement available as a powder or tablet. Kiwifruit is high in vitamins C and E. Two medium kiwis boast 230 percent the recommended daily allowance of vitamin C, almost twice that of an orange. Studies suggest that vitamin C boosts the immune system and fights stress and aging. It also promotes wound healing and iron absorption for healthy bones, blood vessels, and teeth. In addition to their vitamin C goodness, kiwis contain a rare, fat-free form of vitamin E. This is a potent antioxidant said to help lower cholesterol and boost immunity. Both vitamins act as antioxidants and are being studied for their potential to help protect against cancer-causing cell damage.

As for me, there are so many benefits in the fruits that this is even not very interesting to talk about the benefits of each fruit or vegetable. So, what I need to say is that if you like sweet and sour products, the kiwi is for you. You can make many tasty dishes from the kiwi and with the kiwi. Like ice cream, salads, cakes and so on.

Those who love fruit salads will be well aware of the fruit Kiwi because of the exotic and tropical flair that it adds to your salads. It is an exotic fruit that has a wonderful and distinct flavour. But a lot of people are not aware of this fruit because it is produced in a very few countries and thus these people are missing out on a lot!
Prevents asthma and other respiratory diseases: Studies in Italy performed on 18,000 6-7 year old children have demonstrated health benefits to the respiratory tract. The study found that children eating the 5-7 servings of citrus and kiwifruit per week had 44 percent less incidence of wheezing compared to children eating less than once a week. Nigh time cough was reduced by 27 percent, shortness of breath by 32 percent, runny nose by 28 percent, severe wheeze by 41 percent, and chronic cough by 25 percent. This is because of the high vitamin C content of the fruit.
Fights cardiovascular diseases: Eating kiwi fruit every morning has the same effect as aspirin for heart health (reduced blood clotting), but without the side effects such as inflammation and bleeding in the intestinal tract. According to a study conducted in University of Oslo, Norway, people who ate 2 to 3 kiwi fruit per day for 28 days reduced their platelet aggregation response (potential for blood clot formation) by 18 percent and lowered their blood triglycerides by 15 percent. This prevents a build up of deposits and plaques in the arterial walls, consequently, guarding against cardiovascular diseases.
Anti cancer: Kiwi contains a variety of flavonoids and carotenoids, which have demonstrated antioxidant activity. These phytonutrients are responsible for protecting your DNA from oxygen-related damage. By preventing DNA from being damaged, cancer growth is inhibited and prevented.
Digestive health: Kiwis are a very good source of dietary fiber. Fiber helps keep your digestive health in check and is good for binding and removing toxins from the colon, which is helpful for preventing colon cancer. Fiber also acts to prevent constipation and other gastro-intestinal issues.
Protects your eyes: Kiwi is a good source of lutein and zeaxanthin, natural chemicals found in the human eye. Lutein helps to filter out damaging blue light, which helps prevent age-related macular degeneration and the development of glaucoma and cataracts. Zeaxanthin works hand in hand with lutein, contributing primarily to eye health. A study published in the June 2004 issue of the Archives of Opthamology indicates that eating 3 or more servings of fruit (including kiwi) per day may lower your risk of age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), which is the primary cause of vision loss in older adults.

Manage blood pressure: It is a very rich source of healthy electrolyte potassium. Potassium plays a major role in body cells by keeping the body fluids and electrolyte in balance, which help control heart rate and blood pressure by countering effects of sodium.

Good for skin: Kiwi is a good source of vitamin E, an antioxidant that can help against potential skin degeneration and work wonders for the health of the skin.

Boosts immunity: Due to its extremely high vitamin C content and its complement of antioxidant compounds, kiwi has proven to be an immune booster.

Fights male impotency: It contains the amino acid arginine, a well-known vasodilator that has been used to treat impotence in men.

Supports healthy birth: It has four peaches' worth of folate, which is essential for women before and during pregnancy. Folate helps to develop the blood cells for the baby in the womb.

Forget Flintstones chewables — kiwis are filled with essential vitamins, too! One medium kiwi packs 5 percent of the daily recommended amount of folate and 117 percent of daily vitamin C. Plus, this tangy fruit provides 38 percent of the recommended daily intake of vitamin K, a nutrient often missing from people’s diets that is essential for bodily functions like normal blood clotting. One cup of sliced kiwi (about two medium fruits) also contains 273 percent of the daily recommended amount of vitamin C, which is important for the growth and repair of tissues in every part of the body. (One cup of oranges, on the other hand, only contains 160 percent.) These guys got minerals covered, too. Kiwis offer a variety of nutrients such as calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, copper, and manganese. And get this — one cup provides more potassium than the same amount of sliced bananas, with less sugar and calories, to boot. Here’s the skinny: Kiwis are also great for those trying to diet or lose weight, with only about 50 calories in one medium fruit. And they may taste sweet, but there’s no worrying about cavities when it comes to kiwi, with just 7 grams of sugar in one medium fruit — almost three times less than the amount in one apple.

Kiwi is a great health food and great for a snack and if your trying to cut pounds it is great for that to, a good replacement food for snacks and good to start off your day with at breakfast time. Kiwis contain good amounts of vitamin A (great for skin, bone, and tooth development, and protected vision, including protection against macular degeneration), and vitamin E (twice the amount found in avocados, with nearly half the calories), along with potassium to balance the body's electrolytes and limiting hypertension and high blood pressure. The copper in kiwi is especially good for children, supporting healthy development in infants, especially in the areas of bone growth and brain development, and also for the formation of healthy red blood cells and building immunity against disease.
