I completely agree with you, we are not taught to be happy, it is our personal choice to be happy or not. Of course, there may be some failures or difficulties in life, we are sure we will not be able to cope with, but if to be an optimist, we should treat those difficulties like valuable experience and move on. Positive thinking helps to notice happy moments of life, enjoy every second of it. Some time ago I had the pessimistic vision of the world, everything seemed so unfair and negative to me, but then I tried to change such points of view concerning my life, because it made me feel frustrated and miserable. All in all, people create the world they live in by themselves.
I want to say that when something negative happens to you, but it is not your fault and you are unable to influence on it somehow, to change it, to make it better, then the only thing you can , and definitely should, do in this case is look whether your situation , even when it seems completely terrible, has positive sides and what are they. And if you don't see anything positive at all think that this situation is an experience first of all ,negative experience is also an experience, it is a lesson which life gives you for you to become the person you were born to be.
